The C800 series bidirectional DC contactors are specifically designed for automotive applications in modern e-mobility systems. With a compact design and high switching capacity, this series provides an efficient solution for safely switching high power in limited spaces. The maximum making current (Icm) is 4,500 A, while the contactors can continuously conduct up to 500 A. In the event of a short circuit, 6,000 A can flow for 20 milliseconds without the contacts welding, ensuring a reliable and safe disconnection of high voltages.
The C800 series is particularly suitable for integration into the Battery Disconnect Unit (BDU) of modern electric vehicles. The BDU connects the high-voltage battery to the electrical drivetrain and provides a crucial safety function: in the event of thermal overload or a short circuit, the battery is automatically and safely galvanically isolated from the drivetrain.
Thanks to its full bidirectional operation, the C800 series enables energy recovery in hybrid and electric vehicles, contributing to more efficient energy management and enhanced safety in battery-powered systems.
