Normally Open and Closed Pinch Valves
Most pinch valves are available in a normally open configuration, meaning they stay open without air supply. However, Festo has introduced an innovative normally closed (N/C) version, which automatically closes when there is a loss of air pressure, providing additional safety for specific applications.
How Does a Pinch Valve Work?
A pinch valve operates without the need for a complex drive system. It consists of an internal sleeve housed within a valve body, where air pressure is applied to the outer surface of the sleeve, causing it to compress and shut off the flow of the medium. This makes the pinch valve especially suitable for handling materials that are difficult to control, such as liquids with particles, powders, or viscous substances. When the sleeve wears out, it can easily be replaced, contributing to the valve's long service life.

Benefits of Pinch Valves
Full Bore Opening: In the open position, a pinch valve provides an almost full bore, resulting in minimal resistance and pressure drop.
Seals Around Particles: Even when conveying media with solid particles, the sleeve compresses around the particles, ensuring a complete seal.
Low Maintenance: The sleeve is the only part in contact with the medium, and it can be easily replaced, reducing maintenance costs.
Durable and Wear-Resistant: The sleeve is made from high-quality elastomers that can withstand abrasive and aggressive media, extending the valve’s lifespan.
Applications of Pinch Valves
Pinch valves are used in a wide range of industries due to their versatility and reliability. They are particularly effective in applications where abrasive media, such as cement, sludge, or concrete, is transported. For example, pinch valves can handle concrete as a medium and operate underwater using compressed air, making them suitable for tough environments.

Pinch Valves for Abrasive and Aggressive Media
Because of their resistance to wear and chemical degradation, pinch valves are ideal for handling corrosive or abrasive media. They are commonly used in mining to transport ores, and in chemical industries for safely handling aggressive chemicals.
Why Choose a Pinch Valve?
Pinch valves offer an efficient and cost-effective solution for applications where reliability and durability are crucial. Their simple construction, low maintenance requirements, and adaptability to different media make them an excellent choice for a wide range of industrial processes. Whether you are handling powders, fibrous liquids, or abrasive materials, a pinch valve provides a flexible and safe solution.
Pinch valves are the perfect choice for safely and efficiently shutting off a variety of media in demanding environments.
