Sightglasses
A sight glass device, also called a control device or inspection device, is a window in a pipe, boiler, tank or silo for visually detecting the presence, flow or level of a medium. This allows one to check/inspect a device or the entire process.
A weld-in sight glass generally consists of a stainless steel or steel base flange (block flange, weld flange) and a cover flange, 2 seals and the glass. The flanges are mounted together using bolts.
The sight glasses in the piping system (inline mounting) can be supplied with various process connections such as flanges, threaded connections or welded connections.
For the glass, depending on the pressure, temperature and the medium, one often chooses one of the two most commonly used glasses: borosilicate glass or soda-lime glass. Ebora can use this data to calculate the minimum thickness of the glass for you.
Please keep in mind that, contrary to popular belief, every sight glass is subject to wear and tear.
We therefore advise you to check the glass regularly and always order spare glass and seals.
